BURSA MALAYSIA NAMED BEST STOCK EXCHANGE FOR ISLAMIC LISTING

Bursa Malaysia Berhad gains the title of ‘Best Stock Exchange for Islamic Listings’ by Islamic Finance News (“IFN”) at the recent 14th Annual IFN Services Providers Poll. 

It emerged as the winner for this category for the second consecutive year and the first category appeared in 2018. It was also introduced in recognition of the most outstanding stock exchange for the listing of Shariah-compliant securities in an enabling and conducive ecosystem.  

CEO of Bursa Malaysia Comments

Datuk Muhamad Umar Swift, CEO of Bursa Malaysia commented on the win and he also said, “Malaysia is widely acknowledged as a global leader in the Islamic financial marketplace”. “Bursa Malaysia is certainly proud to be able to play a significant role in its growth”, he added. Datuk also pledged that they will continue to develop more Shariah-compliant opportunities. He continued, “Together with the support of our Islamic brokers, we’ll continue to develop and provide more Shariah-compliant opportunities to issuers and investors.”

He expressed his pride at the award then ended by saying, “This global recognition from IFN is yet another milestone. This achievement will encourage our on-going efforts to further advance and strengthen Bursa’s capabilities in the Islamic capital marketplace.” 

Bursa Malaysia’s Shariah Market Size

As of 31 August 2020, Shariah Market capitalization stood at RM1.2 trillion or 71.1% of total market capitalization. Bursa Malaysia is a leading emerging market exchange. Furthermore, It lists a wide variety of Shariah-compliant securities on the Main, ACE, and LEAP Markets. For the same period, 715 out of a total of 933 companies listed on the Exchange are Shariah-compliant, tradable on Bursa Malaysia-i, the world’s first end-to-end Shariah-compliant investing platform.  

Bursa Malaysia-incorporates a full range of Shariah-compliant exchange-related services. This includes listing, trading, clearing, settlement and depository services. This augments the stock exchanges leadership as the global marketplace for Shariah listing and investments.
