Philippine Labor education now accessible online

The Department of Labour and Employment has rolled out an online course learning portal. The portal is a project under the Labour and Employment Education Services (LEES). The platform provides easier access to learning about labour rights and responsibilities for Filipino Workers.

In a report Secretary Silvestre Bello III, the Bureau of Labor Relations (BLR) has institutionalized the online portal. and this platform presently offers two free courses the Basic Labor and Employment Education Course and the Comprehensive Course on Freedom of Association and Collective Bargaining (CCFACB).

Additionally, the Basic Labor and Employment Education Course covers topics on pre-employment, employment, and post-employment and covers the processes involving in entrepreneurship and professional practice.

The CCFACB is based on the principles under the International Labour Organization (ILO) Conventions 87 and 98. The Education course intent is to enhance the capacity of multi-sectoral stakeholders. Above that, it is also to promote the effective implementation of Freedom of Association and Collective Bargaining principles in the Philippines.

Besides, the Education course’s aim is to improve the participation of tripartite social partners. Especially, in the existing mechanisms in addressing violations of workers’ civil liberties and trade union rights.  Currently, the mechanisms in addressing violations in worker’s civil liberties are lacking.

BLR aims to equip both workers and employers with the right labor information through the platform. Therefore, the goal is to make them better partners in attaining and maintaining harmonious labor-management relationships.

Online Courses Education Portal

We tried out the portal ourselves to gain some feedback and its ease of use. To create an account, visit http://lees.dole.gov.ph/ moodle/. After creating an account, the user may enroll in the preferred course. Browse through the course contents and take the quizzes to receive a certificate of completion.
