Mega Transport Hub Project to Transform Quezon City Philippines
The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has announced plans to develop a major transport hub in Quezon City, aiming to rival the scale of the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX). The ambitious “Project Hub” will be built on a prime three-hectare GSIS property. It sits strategically at the corner of Elliptical Road and Commonwealth Avenue. Set for completion by 2027, the hub will provide significant support to existing transport lines. Furthermore it will boost connectivity for the region.
GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso emphasizes that the new facility will offer a well-organized, modern transport experience. “Project Hub aims to be a world-class intermodal transport hub. It will focus on efficiency, passenger comfort, and seamless connectivity with other transport modes, including the MRT-7,” Veloso said. The hub’s location will provide easy access to the nearby Philcoa Station of the Metro Rail Transit-7 (MRT-7). The MRT-7 line will operate from North Triangle Common Station in North Edsa, extending all the way to San Jose del Monte in Bulacan.
World Bank to support GSIS Mega Transport Hub
The Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and the Quezon City government have joined forces with GSIS. Together, they drive this landmark initiative forward. DOTr will lead the project’s planning, financing, and execution with financial support from the World Bank. Meanwhile, MMDA will conduct essential studies focused on traffic management and engineering design. Moreover, Quezon City will ensure smooth regulatory processes for the hub’s swift construction.
During the development phase, GSIS and its partners will provide temporary public parking on-site, offering around 300 spaces. This temporary setup will provide service to the community. It will remain in place until the permanent transport facilities are ready.
Veloso reaffirmed GSIS’s commitment to delivering a sustainable initiative that will enhance public transportation. “Through the Board of Trustees’ guidance, GSIS will continue to support Project Hub, meeting members’ needs with excellence and integrity,” he stated, underscoring the organization’s dedication to both public service and sustainable growth in the region.
