SIA and Air India Expand Singapore Codeshare Network Globally

Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Air India have announced a significant expansion of their codeshare agreement, marking a milestone since their last expansion in 2010. Set to begin on October 27, this new arrangement aims to provide travelers with increased connectivity across India and globally. The partnership will integrate 11 Indian cities and 40 international destinations into their codeshare network, transforming travel options for customers.

Through this enhanced partnership, both airlines will codeshare on flights between Singapore and two major Indian cities—Bengaluru and Chennai. This will increase total weekly codeshare services between the two nations from 14 to 56. SIA’s customers will benefit from expanded access to Air India’s international network. They can connect through Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru to 12 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. This includes popular hubs like Paris, Frankfurt, and London.

SIA plans quarter stake in Air India

Meanwhile, Air India customers will have expanded access to 29 destinations across SIA’s extensive network throughout Asia and the Pacific, including Sydney, Tokyo, and Manila. This move reflects SIA’s strategy of strengthening its presence in India. It also aims to capitalize on India’s position as a rapidly growing aviation market. Moreover, this extensive network, combined with SIA’s planned 25.1% stake in Air India, cements the airlines’ long-term collaborative vision.

Competition is set to intensify with IndiGo’s extensive domestic reach. However, this codeshare expansion uniquely places SIA and Air India as robust players in the Indo-Singapore travel corridor. As flights progressively become available for booking, travelers can expect a seamless, interconnected experience across both networks.

In a competitive environment, SIA’s Chief Commercial Officer Lee Lik Hsin emphasized the strategic importance of India as a key market, noting that the expanded domestic network will enhance connectivity and convenience. This expansion strengthens Delhi Airport’s ambitions to position itself as a major transit hub, with increased revenue potential through passenger transfers and broader retail and food offerings, setting a transformative precedent in the region’s aviation landscape.
