MyHSR Corp Seeks KL-SG HSR Concept Proposals

MyHSR Corporation Sdn Bhd (MyHSR Corp) is advancing the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (KL-SG HSR) project with a new phase. Following a successful input gathering exercise in March, MyHSR Corp is launching a Request for Information (RFI) exercise. The objective is to invite the private sector to submit official concept proposals. The concept proposals will be for the development and operation of the KL-SG HSR project through a public-private partnership model.

Initially, MyHSR Corp engaged with selected private companies to assess their interest, capabilities, and resource requirements for the project’s sustainability. The RFI exercise will now be open to both local and international firms and consortia. Its purpose is to assist the Malaysian government in making informed decisions. This will be done by evaluating the industry’s interest, funding potential, and development capabilities. Evaluation areas will include technical specifications, project costing, commercial and business models, as well as consortium and governance frameworks.

Chairman and CEO of MyHSR comment

Dato’ Sri Haji Fauzi Bin Abdul Rahman, Chairman of MyHSR Corp, expressed gratitude for the strong support the Malaysian government has shown for the KL-SG HSR project. He emphasized the project’s substantial benefits. These benefits would be enhancing economic dynamism, expanding connectivity, and contributing to long-term growth and sustainability in Malaysia.

Dato’ Mohd Nur Ismal Bin Mohamed Kamal, CEO of MyHSR Corp, encouraged firms and consortia with relevant experience to actively participate in the RFI exercise. He underscored the importance of receiving high-quality proposals that will serve as a crucial reference for the government’s decision-making process. The RFI exercise reflects the government’s commitment to reviving the KL-SG HSR project. The government and MyHSR aims to explore innovative funding mechanisms and implementation models. Ultimately, the aim is to improve rail transport infrastructure and stimulate the national economy.

MyHSR Corp remains dedicated to supporting the government in finding the most effective solution to revive the KL-SG HSR project. The company firmly believes that high-speed rail developments have proven to be global growth engines. Firstly, it will drive catalytic development. Secondly, it will increase economic growth. And finally it will benefit various sectors of society.

Project riddled with setbacks

Many will be familiar with the SG-KL HSR project. The project was mooted by former Malaysian PM, Najib Razak. It was cancelled when the Pakatan Harapan government came into power. Since then, MyHSR has been in a constant state of limbo.

Finally, it is that same political party that seems to want to restart the project now. This call for RFI by MyHSR seems to be the re-boot of this project.
