Jetstar Asia to Close, Ending Regional Operations
Jetstar Asia, the Singapore-based low-cost carrier under the Jetstar Group, will permanently cease operations on 31 July 2025. The announcement follows a comprehensive internal review and reflects mounting operational challenges including rising supplier costs, escalating airport charges, and intensifying regional competition.
The shutdown affects all Jetstar Asia (3K) services operating out of Singapore Changi Airport, with no impact on Jetstar Airways (JQ) international flights between Australia and Southeast Asia or Jetstar Japan (GK) flights.
A total of 16 regional routes will be discontinued. These include major cities such as Bangkok, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, and Denpasar (Bali), as well as less frequent services to destinations like Okinawa, Surabaya, Penang, and Wuxi. Seasonal and limited routes such as Broome and Clark are also impacted, with the Clark route already suspended until December and scheduled for only limited services prior to closure.
Jetstar Asia will continue to operate till 31st July 2025
Jetstar Asia flights will continue operating until the end of July, although the schedule will be progressively reduced. Customers holding tickets for travel before 31 July may see changes to their itineraries and will be contacted directly if affected. Bookings from 1 August onwards are no longer valid, and full refunds will be issued to the original form of payment. Jetstar Asia will also refund unused voucher balances and Club Jetstar memberships beginning August.
Established in 2004, Jetstar Asia was a significant player in the region’s budget travel sector, offering affordable connections across Southeast and East Asia. Its closure marks a notable contraction in the low-cost airline market, which has been under pressure from both pandemic aftershocks and persistent cost increases.
The Jetstar Group will reallocate Jetstar Asia’s fleet of 13 Airbus A320 aircraft to support Qantas operations in Australia and New Zealand, as part of a broader fleet optimisation strategy. Passengers are advised to monitor their bookings and seek further assistance through Jetstar Asia’s official channels.
