Who Is Dilhan Pillay, Temasek Holdings New CEO?

The Board of Temasek Holdings announced Leadership transition. In a press statement on the 9th of February, the board announced that Mr Dilhan Pillay Sandrasegara will succeed Ms Ho Ching as Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Temasek Holdings with effect from 1 October 2021. He will concurrently hold his current appointment as Chief Executive Officer of Temasek International (TI).

Ho Ching will retire from Temasek Holdings and step down from its Board on the same date.

Announcing the change was Mr Lim Boon Heng, Chairman of Temasek Holdings. Mr Lim noted: “Leadership succession is a strategic responsibility of the Board. We have had in place an annual review since the early 2000s. This enables the Board to be prepared for all eventualities, with various succession options over different time horizons.

“We are delighted to appoint Dilhan to the role of CEO of Temasek Holdings. This will take place on 1 October this year.

Mdm Ho expressed confidence in the new CEO in the statement as well.

“I know Dilhan will take Temasek to the next level. He brings solid values, a decade of experience in the firm and a wealth of experience before joining Temasek. More importantly, he has also brought fresh ideas essential to sustaining any organisation. I have full confidence in Dilhan and his team to transform Temasek to be more than it is today.”

Background on Mr Dilhan Pillay, Temasek Holding’s New CEO

Mr Pillay studied at the National University of Singapore (Bachelor of Laws) and Cambridge’s University (Master of Laws).

He speaks English and Malay and is a member of the International Bar Association; the Inter-Pacific Bar Association, and the Singapore Institute of Directors.

Mr Pillay is a corporate lawyer who has been with Temasek since September 2010.

Prior to joining Temasek, he was the Managing Partner of WongPartnership LLP, one of the largest law firms in Singapore.

He has had more than two decades of legal experience. His area of expertise mainly focused on mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, and corporate law.

Mr Pillay also served as a Trustee of the Singapore Management University. He was also a member of the Advisory Board of its Law School. He was on the board of Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority of Singapore.

In the past, Mr Pillay served on several statutory and corporate boards, including Jurong Town Corporation, Sentosa Development Corporation, Banyan Tree Holdings Ltd and SMRT Corporation Ltd.
