Manila Wins World Top Tourism Destination Award
Manila achieved a historic tourism milestone, earning the title of “World’s Leading City Destination” at the 2023 World Travel Awards in Dubai. The prestigious event, often likened to the Oscars of the travel industry, bestowed four significant global accolades upon the Philippines. Manila was competing against global powerhouse cities such as London, New York, Dubai and Hong Kong. Thus, the win really came as a surprise to the winners.
Among the triumphs, the Philippines retained its 2022 titles as the “World’s Leading Dive Destination” and “Beach Destination.” Notably, Manila’s win marked the first time the city received such recognition. Additionally, the nation garnered the Global Tourism Resilience Award. This award acknowledges the Philippines innovation in overcoming challenges as well as its global leadership in tourism.
The Philippines is among five global destinations to receive the inaugural award. Winners set benchmarks for tourism resilience. Amanpulo Resort is the “World’s Leading Dive Resort,”. Subsequently, City of Dreams Manila is the “World’s Leading Fully Integrated Resort.”
The country’s success extended to the Asia category of the 2023 World Travel Awards in September, where various resorts and hotels were honored. Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco expressed joy. Subsequently, she emphasized the awards’ significance to the Filipino pride and the nation’s economic and global standing.
The Manila Public Information Office joined in the celebration, offering congratulations to the city of Manila via Facebook. Frasco highlighted tourism’s substantial contribution to the Philippine economy.
During the awarding ceremony, Department of Tourism Undersecretary Shahlimar Hofer Tamano and Assistant Secretary Maria Rica Bueno accepted the accolades on behalf of the tourism chief.
Founded in 1993, the World Travel Awards, headquartered in London, acknowledges outstanding achievements in travel, tourism, and hospitality.
The 30th annual awards had a specific goal: to actively recognize excellence across key sectors. AirAsia won the World’s Leading Low-Cost Airline 2023. This award is their 11th consecutive win.
In conclusion, these awards further solidifies the Philippines’ standing as a global leader in tourism.
